About Jim Burke

Jim grew up in the small town of St. Michael, Minnesota. His parents were educators. His father served as a school principal for nearly 40 years, and his mother was a teacher & substitute teacher.

He graduated from high school as class salutatorian. He attended college at NDSU in Fargo, ND and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.

While at college, Jim helped with flood protection efforts by sandbagging in the Fargo flood of ’97. This event taught him quite a bit about floods and touched him deeply. It made him work even harder when Cedar Rapids experienced flooding in 2008. He even urged the city to request volunteers when the city thought it could do the job itself. Jim helped people affected by floods and got involved in post-flood meetings.

Jim moved to Iowa to work for Rockwell Collins over a decade ago. He works as a Sr. Systems Engineer designing avionics systems to support our nation's troops. Jim enjoys solving problems of all kinds, and looks forward to addressing the issues facing our state. Prior to engineering, Jim worked in jobs involving maintenance and manual labor in extreme heat.

Jim is active in church and pro-life organizations. He serves on the St. Jude’s Church Spiritual Growth Committee, Social Concerns Committee, and Respect Life Committee. He is on the board of Linn-Area Pro-Life United and Coalition for Life of Iowa. Jim values life and the rights of all people.
